There is an ECM-controlled fuel cutoff at about 5850 RPM but the car's top speed will be at a lower RPM than the fuel cutoff. From what I remember about my 92 A4, the shift points for the auto tranny were at or just below the fuel cutoff RPM.
Is your car an A4 or 6-speed? Top speed with a manual tranny car is in 5th gear.
You would need a custom chip burned to change the fuel cutoff RPM and changing the shift points in the auto tranny would benefit. but for stock motors, I don't think there would be a lot of improvement. For a stock LT1, the max HP comes in at around 5000 RPM and max torque at 4000 RPM. RPM redline is at 5500.
