The other day I fired my '89 and it fired fine, (this was after re-gasketing my intake) even set the timing perfect. Problem is, the distro cap was spun so much that the wires were too tight. So we pulled the distro and re-dropped it. But this time, instead of setting the #1 at TDC, we lined it up at 6 degrees before and dropped the distro again. Hooked everything up and after checking the timing, she idles at 1900 to 2000 rpms. Any thoughts? Could dropping the distro with #1 already set at 6 degrees B-TDC cause this?
In order to set the timing properly you need to unplug the tan wire with the black stripe. It will be hanging out of the wire loom by the brake booster.

Yoy might have a sliped harmonic balance you should reset TDC and position rotor. To gain a little more wire slack you can spin the drive gear off the oil pump with a screew driver. after re-setting TDC #1 and rotor you can check timing mark to see if the balancer has sliped it should be around the zero mark on the timing tab
