I know that the reason for no EGR on the LT4 was because the LT4 cam had some exhaust valve cross over and that made it so that the EGR system wasn't needed for emissions.
So, with the LT4 HOT cam, is the EGR still needed?
If you can just disable EGR in the computer I would do that. I removed the AIR pump and all the related tubing, so I fabriated an EGR blockoff plate. For the moment the EGR valve is still on my intake, but it does nothing.
If you don't have cats you don't need the AIR pump, removing it gives you a great place to add a wiring distribution block, or perhaps the MSD box everybody wants. I've got mine as a wiring distribution right now, looks pretty nice, but if a digital 6 would fit in the same place I think I would put it there.
I still have the cats, so i'll leave the air pump alone. As for the EGR, I'll keep an eye on how much it is being used in my logs, and I'll see if I can turn it off in the computer.
Glock94, I had that question too, but one further ...
Is a HotCam a good upgrade for an L98? With over 200K, I'm figuring on a rebuild in the not so distant future, or at least a reseal & timing chain. And, since I'm at it a valve train upgrade, cam, rockers...
Is a HotCam a good upgrade for the L98, and if so, can I nix the airpump & egr??
The LT4 cam came stock with enough exhuast valve overlap that it didn't need an EGR. Thats in the grind of the cam, not something special on the engine. And the LT4 Hot Cam has even more.
The LT4 Hot Cam is not good for L98s because of all the duration the cam has, and that is because of the length of the intake runners. For an L98, you want plenty of lift, with short duration to build monster torque.

I would imagine the LT4 Hotcam is suited for a short runner style intake, not the long style runner set up such as a TPI or Super Ram.
And yes GM did away with egr by what the other post said about cam overlap and etc on the LT4.
If the EGR is required for visual inspection, even if it doesnt function, leave it alone, but if no inspections where you live, you wont need it with that Hot cam for the visual.
For those who want to know,For the stock L98 the LPE 219 cam is almost too big unless you have the heads worked and SR ready to go with it.
