have checked voltage at knock sensor key on not running cold 12 volts running up to operating temp 9.5 volts seems high i have replaced the knock sensor the ign module cap rotor ign coil leads plugs temp sensor checked wire from ecm to sensor when car is running at an idle the scanner shows spark timing jumping between 3-13 degrees after driving the car for twenty minutes and shutting it off and leaving it sit for ten minutes will start then emediatly stop the ecm feels very hot any ideas
in 1990 gm moved the electronic spark control into the memcal of the ecm
i have checked for bent pins and loose plugs
a guy one here not more then a day or two ago had a thread on his doing the same thing but I cant remember his user name. he replaced ecm and knock sensor and problem went away.
thanks for the link but i am still unable to find out if 12 volts at the knock sensor is to high and if so what would be the cause of this if its the ecm no problem i will get another one but is there another problem that caused its failure i only want to do this one time vic
