Default Adhesive removal from plastic

My center console had a thin layer of "carpet" inside it. It was attached with some kind of adhesive. I peeled the carpet out but I need to know what I can use to remove the adhesive residue without damaging the plastic. Thanks.

you might be able to use some WD-40 to get the sticky off and then use some alcohol to get the WD-40 off. works wonders.

3M makes an adhesive remover that is used for weatherstrip. Most corvette places carry it, also hardware stores. It should work great.

The WD40 and backscraping with a raqzor got the lion share of it off and softened the rest to the point that a dry rag rolled the rest of it. Still have a little film, I think but I'm hopeful that my Acryli-Prep before paint will disolve that.

I have the 3M stuff but it has Xylene and Toulene in it and I think that will eat plastic so i did not try that.
