Thanks, folks, for the responses to my earlier post. I checked and found that the antenna motor is still working, it's just that the antenna itself is stuck. No up, no down. The bottom segment of it is sticking up about 3 inches above the fender.
I've heard the fix is about $17 (for a new ribbon) and about 30 minutes of work. How exactly is this done?
Re: How to Fix Antenna Problem on 89 coupe? (White Lightning)
I have done this repair. I had to take the antenna out of the car and take it apart to get the ribbon out. This is no 30 minute job. But you have to do the same work to put in a new antenna anyway so it is much cheaper.
Re: How to Fix Antenna Problem on 89 coupe? (White Lightning)
Hi WL,
I have to do the same repair on my 90'. I put a search on Google and it came up with the process right here at the Corvette Forum/Tech Tips page. Sound simple, but a crappy place to get into. As with any repair fixing the problem is easy, but you have to take the part out to do so, and that will be the trick. I also am looking at ordering the repair kit from Eckler's, $29.99 for the kit, A new antenna though, is $89.99 so guess it's not that bad.
I will wait until the part come in to take the antenna out, so I don't have to do it twice. Good luck (For both of us!)
