Default Auxiliary fan staying on

Yesterday, I had the car running after replacing the harmonic balancer, timing cover, and adjusting the roller rockers. The car was fine until I noticed the engine side fan wasn't coming on and the temp went up to 248, at which point I shut the car off and called it a day since it started to rain. Today I go to start my car and the battery was dead so I had to jump it. As soon as I made connections to jump it, the front auxiliary fan came on, which I thought was weird. Started the car and the front fan turned off, and when the temp hit around 230 the engine side fan came on. Now when I turn the car off, the auxiliary fan stays on and turns off when the car is running. I waited 10 min before I just disconnected the front fan and tried to figure it out. Any suggestions? Where should I start? Could I have done something when I jumped it? Could I still drive the car with the engine side fan still working until I can figured out what's causing it? I'm guessing this is what drained the battery overnight, but the thing is, I don't remember hearing the fan come on after I shut the car off yesterday. It's a 85 L98. Thanks.

Check the thermostatic switch that turns on the aux fan, then also check the aux fan relay, either or both may be defective. My money is on the thermostatic switch. I think on 85's, its on the left side of the engine. Check your FSM if you have one.
