Default Service engine light problem

Well my car idles rough after I start it up. After the service soon light comes on, my idle becomes normal. I was wondering what is going on, and why the car idles better when the service engine light comes on. I have no cats, so I'm thinking that has something to do with it, I was just wondering if I didn't have cats why would the idle be rough, and then become normal when the service engine light comes on.

Thanks for the help.

Well I tried jumping pins 4 & 12, but no codes popped up on my car. So, I don't have any way of checking the codes. I was hoping someone on here could help me out before I payed a dealer to check what's wrong with my car.

Well being a '94, I thought it was still possible. The build dat on my car was 9/93. some people said that they changed to OBDII on late '94 models.

I'm still not sure on this whole code finding thing, so anyone with some info please post.

You have an OBD I. The II'S came out in late95 & were standard in 96. The 95's had a few parameters for the II, I think they were just for post compliance testing.

I sent you some stuff that may help pulling your codes.

looks like you have problems with your right fron HO2 sensor, but because it's had problems you may have carboned up the spark plugs also I would start with a new HO2 sensor and a clean set of plugs and see what happens.

David Fulcher
P.S. also check to see if you oil temp sensor is unpluged or broken off it's above the oil filter on the left rear of the engine.(code 62)

I just replaced the plugs, however one was all carbon'd up b/c it wasn't screwed in all the way when they were put on. I cleaned that up and reinstalled it. I may have problems with O2 sensors though, I'm going to check that too.

Before I even read through the thread I was guessing O2 sensor.
It's probably the most common thing that will trip your SES light.

I'm having similar problems with mine. Both O2 sensors have been replaced and I'm still getting the SES light.

Have you scaned for codes and if so what did you have? 96 also has problems with air inject check valves that can give you a SES ligh and not effect running.
