Default Air Pump problem

OK, I just picked up my pump off the bench that has been off as I rebuild the top end. I went to give it a spin and nothing

I believe that in my zest for only clean good looking parts going back on the engine I suspect some water may have got to the unit, maybe temporarily seizing it????? I was thinking to shoot a little WD40 or PB Blaster into the pump and see if it frees up, sound like a good idea?

I just can't believe I might have to fork over $50 for a part that I don't even want

Pull it open, gut it, lubricate it, and be done.

Well, I guess hitting it with some lube or the PB can't be too bad considering it's function in life. Never thought about gutting it, but I do have to pass emissions here in ATL.

As long as the car is hot, it will pass emissions and a visual check. It only injects on start up to. After that, it's just a spinning pully. Make sure you tighten the bolts down good. Ask me how I know.

It is common for the rear bearing to be shot if not grease everything up knock out the fins and put it back together.

I guess I crack it open tonight or tomorrow. It is still frozen even with some PB Blaster in in it!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I gutted my pump and I soaked it in WD-40. I had to take a hammer and chisel and open it that way. Took about 20 minutes. Smashed the fins out. Lubed it up REAL good, I used loc tite to put the bolts back together to make sure it wouldnt break open(I learned that after I tore up a 40 dollar belt). No problems and it still looks stock!

What's the process for gutting it? How did you get rid of the fins! I assume those are the two fins that go through the interior cylinder. What lube did you use.

I just broke it open and cleaned the back plate, then slapped some lithium grease into it. It spins OK, but not great, I worry that it might lock up and then of course eat or toss the belt.

Lotssssss and I mean lots of WD-40. I went thru 4 large cans. Mine was making a aawful racket. Take a hammer and just smash em out. If it locks up on you, say goodbye to the belt and hell to 100 dollars instead of 50. I need a eliminator pully.

OK, I just painted it up to match the rest of the accessories but I think I better break it open and make sure it wants to play nice before saying it is done!

Yeah, I'll crack it open again and see what is up, or $50 for new one isn't the end of the world. Just hate to spend anything for this type of equipment.

OK, the pump is not moving that smooth so it is either gut it or replace. I don't want to invest $50 in a new one but I'm not really sure about the process to gut it. Can someone give me a good step by step pictures are even better.

WD-40 is designed to displace water. It is not a good lubricant.

I actually lubricated mine with lithium grease thinking that would work well on the bearing. But I think some how it gets hung up with the fins, although I don't really know how these work.

If I don't get any good idea in a day or so I'll have to replace.
