removing cats

Default removing cats

when the cats are removed is it just a welded pipe in place or is there a "off-road/test pipe" you can just bolt in place?

Well its not like cats are a humongus restriction but i got mine replaced after they fell off w/straight pipe for like 40 bucks.and i dynoed it afterwards and it was good for about 3 hp and 8 ftlbs.but my mileage went up 1.8 mpg@75 mph.ive got a 92 w/a4 and 2;59 gears so i personally felt like it was a good deal.however at the drag strip i got side by side action from a stock 09 stang vert that was a v-6.f-bodys and gts smoke me on a regular basis.so dont waste your money on the small stuff.start with heads,cam and long tube headers,and if that doesnt do it start dumping money on the stuff that only inches you up!

What year is your car? The exhaust system and cats on the 84-91 cars are different than the 92-96 cars.

Remember too that removing the cats means it won't pass emissions in states that test. Even though here in NC my '93 is exempt from emissions testing, they still check to see if it's physically there, so I'd choose to gut it rather than eliminate it.

Think about resale too. A prospective buyer might not appreciate them being gone.
