Default What files needed?

Bear with me guys I'm just starting to learn and have been reading all post I can find, but with great confusion. I have the tunerpro software and cable. Do I need to download certain files for this software to read from the car? (bin...etc?). Any response will be greatly appreciated. I have an 88, auto if that makes a difference.

Yes, First you need the XDF file for your ECM/PCM. This file is the "layout table" or mask for your TunerPro software to organize the ECM program (bin) file. The XDF file is available for download from the TunerPro website

http://tunerpro.markmansur.com/downloadBinDefs.htm

Looks like you going to need the $32B mask.

But unless you can upload the modified bin into your ECM, your not going anywhere. So a programmable chip is required.

Look here for some ideas. http://www.moates.net./

Any help?
Now you've got lots of questions?

Thanks for the response, its greatly appreciated.

Right now I am just trying to hook up and read sensor values from the ecm and get used to the software. I saw mention that I needed some files just to get the software to read the ecm, hence my first ?s. If I am reading things right when I am ready to change values, and up load to ecm I will need something like the Ostrich unit to act as a piggyback on the ecm to be my pass through point. Man this is gonna be fun learning this!!! What a challenge!!!

I have not used tunerpro for scanning (reading sensors) but I believe you need the appropriate ADS file to do this, I use TTS Datamaster for my scanning.

Regarding changing values you will need a chip reader/burner (like burn2) if you want to update the chip in the memcal, otherwise you can use the Ostrich to make realtime updates but without a chip burner you will need to use the Ostrich full time.

Also the various moates adapters are very hand to have also.

This is what I have/use
BURN1 Chip Programmer - read and write chips
HDR1 Memcal Header - usefull if reading the existing chip without removing it from memcal
G1 Memory Adapter - allows you to use your updated chip or Ostrich with your memcal without removing/desoldering the existing chip
2TIMER - allows you to switch between 2 programs on the one chip
Ostrich - real time programming with Tunerpro R/T
and 27SF512 Chips

FYI - DIY PROM on thirdgen.org has heaps of info on how to do this

To monitor you will need to load an ADS file for the "165" ecm into tuner pro. To make changes (aside from tuner pro rt) and monitor you will need either an ostrich or the apu-1, a usb and aldl cable, gp-1 (w/zif connector), and your stock chip. Buying the APU-1 package comes w/everything you need to do it all chip burning, emulating, etc.etc.
