WOW, not my bar, but a friend of mine the had the work done. Like I said, Absolute Performance in Arkansas contracted the work out to whoever does their bars.
Edgar, why would you think they would not be NHRA legal? They are tied to the frame and come off the main hoop within reg. Is there a part of the rule that says the rearward bars have to be perfectly straight? The Tech inspectors at the Texas Motorplex let him race with it (yes sub 12 sec runs)and they are an NHRA track. Not sure anyone would be dumb enough to ask a tech to "really" look at a bar for leglity if they just spent ~$1500 to have it custom made when they passed the original visual to race.
I've seen a cage in a C4 that doesn't even truly interfere with entrance and exit. That's what I would like. It would have to be able to store the top as well. I mean think about it, this thing would strengthen the car to the point where it wouldn't suck to drive with the top out, I'd love to still have that option.
Ok, here's my cage idea for the do it yourself types; it'sa welded in 6pt using 1-3/4", .095" wall chome-moly steel. Well, at least I designed it and stripped / refitted the interior. I had a race car fab shop do the bending and TIG welding; cost $800 to have it done.
For anyone who cares: NHRA requires 1.75" dia. X .118" wall thickness, mild steel tubing OR 1.75" dia. X .083" wall thickness, 4130 chromoly tubing, for their roll bars.
Chris, I'm here in Shreveport, LA. If the party that fabricated that set up is right across the border in Arkansas, I'd LOVE to know exactly where. I'll make a date to have one put together ASAP! Thanks for any detailed info :)
