I've put the scanner on my car among other codes the scanner say's that the third gear switch is on , I can tell it to when I take off. How can I turn the switch off? I just installed TCI's shift kit the other day.
The third gear switch comes on when the third shift valve passage has fluid pressure.
A number of things can cause it, things ranging from leaks between valve body/seperator plate gaskets or a valve not installed correctly.
The switch could be bad as well.
Also clogged bleed holes in the clutch pistons can cause this.
The most liekly is something you did when installing the shift kit.
First thing I would do is replace the switch ( It's relatively easy and cheap to do ), if that does not fix it, pull the valve body and see where it got screwed up.
I can tell you that pressure on that circuit at all times will damage the clutch packs. You need to fix it.
Thanks for the reply,I'm going to check things out , there was no gaskets with the kit, i.e. seperator one's that is. one more ? When I stomp on it from a dead stop the engine revs up real real high, the car is moving forward but not as strong and as fast as it should, I have to let off the gas for fear of blow-up because it will not shift like it should, but under normal driving the tranny shifts normal. Is this a valve body malf. or torque conv. problem, I did also change the t.c. with a 26-2700 stall. thanks, Rich
