Are these the final steps for pulling the LT1?
- All of the electrical and vacuum lines are removed.
- The fuel rails are disconnected and flipped back.
- The A/C compressor is loosened and flipped out of the way.
- The alternator, steering pump, starter and exhaust system have been removed.
I think, and please tell me if I am wrong, the next steps are:
- Put the engine hoist on the engine (I have a Happy Hooker).
- Remove the engine mounting bolts.
- Remove the C-beam (I don't know what this is yet).
- Put a jack, with board, under the trans. (Automatic).
- Unbolt what I can on the trans.
- Lower the trany a bit, and tilt the engine so that I can get at the bolt on the top of the trans.
- Somewhere in here a miracle happens and I am able to lift the engine out.
How am I doing so far?
I also sent you a PM.
Also, in no particular order:
- shifter linkage? (mine is a 6mt, so not sure if the auto comes out as a unit or not)
- The large ground connection on the left rear side of the engine block.
- Power steering - resevoir as well as the pump?
- Torque converter <> flexplate bolts
- on the 6MT the tranny has to come all the way out. Not sure on the Auto, but if you've got the cbeam and such out, dropping hte tranny shoudl be a non-issue at that point.
All you need is a looooong extension (or several cobbled together).
Some of the steps are a personal preference thing. Like the exhaust system, which I completely removed from under the car and set it aside. Just gave me more room to work.
I didn't remove the fans or radiator or shroud either. Engine came out and went back in with those in place. Those, along with exhaust manifolds, spark plugs and wires, intake, TB, ignition module and coil, all stayed put.

and you'll see that this will go in

To here
with long tubes, damper, alternator attached.
I wussed out and removed the smog piping and oil sensors on the install only because I don't have much help. (teenage girls that don't want to get dirty or stay in the garage long, won't judge clearances, touch engine or other car parts, etc. However, they will raise or lower engine via the engine hoist.)

I've also removed engine with transmission still installed however, I don't know whether my long tubes would clear then, however, my factory manifolds certainly would.
