I will have an extra MAF (1988). I have a total of 3. One is no good, use it to practice on. One to modify to the max, whatever that is. One to keep stock. What is the most radical move I can put on this thing? Already planning to remove the screens and cooling fins. Is there some way to take the unit out of the housing? With all those screws it seems like it would just come right out but I have not been able to remove it on my practice MAF. I am going to the dyno in 2 weeks so if I can get this done I will post what difference it makes.
Thanks
Harold
What are you planning to do? I've been trying to think of a way to do a bigger housing to let more air through, but I am wondering if a bigger tube will screw up the readings of the sensor. If this works right and provides a significant increase in cfm to the throttle body I'm going to be all over this. Let us know for sure what happens.
I think there are some screws hidden in the black plastic on the bottom. It seems like I read something about that in TPIS Insiders hints.
Harold, your question is a good one, and I don't have the answer... it would be interesting to see somebody run a ported MAF within a larger cylinder.... and then get the tuning right. Probably hard to do, but interesting never the less.
As a side note, I think a ported MAF is good up to 450 HP and maybe even as high as 475-500..... there have been a few examples on occasion of MAF cars running low 11's.
Don't take it apart. Thats too much work and you will probably break stuff in the process. Yes a bigger housing will screw up the MAF readings. The stock housing will flow enough for about 400 HP.
Thanks all. I think I will just do the standard screen and fin remove. Then I will probably be in the low 11s since I already have Beach Bums wheels too.
:bs
Seriously, my best so far is 13.39. We will see what this year brings. Went to Rockingham Friday night and didn't do to good.

Harold,
So you're who I sold the old 85 rims too.... for the life of me about a month ago I couldn't remember who it was. About a month ago I found a couple of chevy centercaps in the garage.... I assume they belong to those rims... I dunno if I had some on them when I shipped them or not.... and to be honest, I dusted them real quick and shipped them in a hurry without checking anything. If you want them, drop me a mail with your address again, and I'll drop the centercaps in the mail.
Those rims should be perfect for slapping on some drag radials or 26 x11.5 ET Streets.... hope they work out for you.
I think a Ported MAF is fine up to around 450 HP.... maybe even 475, but beyond that I think its done and time to move away from MAF.... too bad, its easy to work with. If somebody would come out with an aftermarket MAF for a TPI, I think it would sell like hot cakes.
Yeah man, that was me. No, there weren't any centercaps. They were wrapped in a nice set of sheets tho. They have come in handy on my "grass floor". I have a set of tires coming to put on the wheels but the guy is kinda jerking me around, already 2 weeks late on shipping them to me. If he keeps on I will sick the forum on his azz. Really screwed me up at Rockingham I was on goodyear streets and it was hopeless.
Thanks, I wasn't worried about the centercaps cause I got a good deal but I sure would like to have them. I'll shoot you an email with the address.
