Hi Guys,
My shifter tends to rattle . The reverse lock out lever (little plastic **** below the shift ****) has a plastic guide with a hole in it that looks like its threaded. Is there supposed to be a set screw or clip to keep pressure on the lever to keep it from rattling? The hole is there but there is nothing in it. None of the catalogs list it. Thanks guys. I think only 92 and 93 have this arrangement.
the only way to get rid of it is to replace the shifter. which I intend to do VERY soon. along with a single mass flywheel and a clutch... :) do it all at once!!!
also, change the u-joints... lotsa things to do whilst in there!!!
Yes there is supposed to be a set screw in there, but it doesn't seem like it would work without it. If I remember correctly the set screw is what connects the collar to the actual moving part. Without the screw it seems like you wouldn't be able to get into reverse.
I have a '90. Mine has a hex head set screw. I use a 1.5mm allen, but I think that might be the wrong size (maybe standard??). The set screw clamps the plastic ring to a metal rod which runs down the middle of the shifter and actually activates the reverse lock-out. Don't over-tighten the set screw because you can crack the plastic which it is threaded into.
Re: Question about '93 6spd shifter (chaos on wheels)
Thanks for the info guys. I don't think the shifter needs replaced. The only thing that rattle is the reverse lock out collar. I will check again but I know there isn't a set screw in that little hole, I will get one asap. Don't want to go without reverse.

oh, yes. the shifter needs to be replaced. no doubt. at all. nada... the factory shifters are way too long. Hurst seems to be the best.
