I am in the process right now of replacing the water pump on my '86, I am following the haynes manual indtructions, I have run into a roadblock, it says to backoff the bracket bolt beneath the lower edge of the compressor clutch that goes into the cylinder head..... I can't seem to find it, I can see where I think it attaches to the cylinder head and if I look below the compressor clutch in the front there is no bolt to backoff. Any help in this puzzle will be greatly appreciated. I am in hour 4 of this job! :cry
This gets everybody. Its most likely gunked in and doesn't look like a bolt. Its a torx head, so you aren't looking for hard edges. Best bet is to get in there with some simple green or other degreaser and clean as much gunk out as possible. Then you should be able to find it.
I don't remember exactly where it is, but I think its pretty tight towards the bottom, like the extension will be touching the pully when the bit is in the bolt.
Hey thanks for the quick reply!
I know now exactly what you are talking about.... I thought that was a bolt coming from the other side! Guess I will have to finish the job tomorrow! I am kinda tired of it today! :seeya
Thanks for your help and encouragement! I am pretty sure I know what No Worries is talking about. I saw that but I was looking for a "real" bolt!
