Can an 86 Supervette Chip be reprogrammed?
Does anyone know how it differs from the original?
Can it be reprogrammed to original settings with a few minor changes? I would like to make the overdrive manual and change for instance.
And last, if it can be changed, is there a good service for these older chips.
It (the chip) can be Read, using a suitable PROM reader, chip adapter and software. This means that the binary file (.bin) can be downloaded from the chip.
That binary file can then be Edited, using suitable software and the correct mask file (definition file).
Such edited binary file can then be written back to the chip, once the chip has been erased, another bit of hardware needed for that. Or written to a Different (new) chip. Normally the same PROM reader would be used for both the read and the write process, along with the same driver software.
ALL of the steps above could be considered to be "reprogramming", I suppose. Depends on what you want to call it.
How does what you now have differ from OEM - good question. You would have to download the file from it and compare it to an OEM .bin file to know what the differences are.
