Default 1 Headlight delayed on closing

They both open fast together but when I shut them off the left one closes right away but the right one closes about 30 seconds later.

It sounds like it doesn't get power until then.

86 vert

thanks

You could check that with a volt meter.

Default I'll check it out

It's safe to open and close the headlights with the hood open right?

If the voltage doesn't appear until when it closes that means what?

I guess if the voltage is present from the time I switch the lights off then the motor's dragging?

Yes, you can operate the headlights with the hood open. Listen carefully to see if the right side motor is running right away, but just not closing. If that is the case it is the gears in the HL motor. Otherwise it is likely one of the relays in the headlight control module.

I had a similar problem with my 87. If voltage is OK, try slightly turning the manual ****. If it opens, then it could be the motor jamming or gears. My problem was the magnet inside the motor was broken in half and jamming the motor from spinning. I super glued it back together, and then epoxied it back to the housing. Also replaced the gears while I had it apart. works fine now. Of course, you have to take it all apart to see what is going on inside so I would make sure all is OK with it getting power first.

Default No ... there's always a 20-30 second delay

Doesn't matter if the car is running or not.

Where abouts is the headlight control module?
Thanks

I meant the electric headlight motor, not the engine. The module on mine (1995) is in the well just forward of the left front tire.

If there is an audible grinding sound, you may have the plastic gear trouble......if you can push the headlight and get it started and then it completes its task on it's own then it is electrical which includes the Motor being old and weak.

Default Search is my friend

'84 to '87 has the three relay setup not the expensive headlight control module of the later C4's.

Would anyone have the schematic for the headlights for an 1986?

Thanks in advance

Default 2 control relays 1 isolation relay

There are 2 motor control relays 1 isolation relay setup using relay ladder logic. I don't even know where they are located. Anyone?
Thanks

Default found tech instructions

For the 2 headlight motor control and isolation relay on 84-87 -- MAM sells the relays too.

I have a similar problem on my 86, but I know that it is just the housing rubbing on the body. There is a little 'rash' near the right headlight on the bumper; the PO obviously hit something jsut enough to twist the housing slightly. It opens just fine, but closes a little slow and a little late. Sometimes it wont close at all and have to push it a little with my hand and then it closes right up. Myabe something to check; I always try to go for the easy solution first before ripping stuff apart!
