Default How do I get it off!!

I need to replace the bushings on the front shocks of my 85. I beleive they are in working condition (only 44k miles) and I don't want to spend the $149 each to replace them! I guess the stock shocks were a Decarbone special shock. The problem I have is how the h... do I get the bolt off the top! I began with WD40 and liquid wrench to loosen it, no success then I even tried a vice grip to hold the nub on top while trying to loosen it, still no luck! What do I do to get this off?? I'm at a bit of a loss. Thanks for suggestions.

arn't the shocks reverse thread???

even if they are not, try to tighten a bit first. that might break the seal.

also, try some PB Blaster. That stuff is the bom...

If that does not get it, try some heat.... but carefully!!!!!

Thanks Bogus, the PB Blaster did it! I also tried duck tape on the shock and a pipe wrench! Came off without a scratch!

If PB Blaster doesn't loosen the nuts, use a nut cracker to split the nuts. Just use some caution not to damage the shock stud. You could also use a die grinder to remove the material on opposing side of the nut and then chisel them off. It's not a tough job to do. Once the nut is cut off, replace them with new hardware. Call the shock company to see if they will send you new nuts if you can't find them locally.
