Default MAT Sensor

I have replaced my injectors and while I had it apart I ported the plenum. It's looking good but before I put it back together, I have one question. Is there anyway to know if the MAT sensor is still good? Would the grinding of the plenum when I opened it up have any adverse impact on it? I hate to get it all back together and then have to pull the plenum off again to change the sensor. How sensitive are they? What should I do?

To test it, unplug the connector, connect an ohm meter to the terminals of the sensor and use a hair dryer to heat it. The resistence should change gradually if it is working. Since you did all that work on the plenum, why not relocate the MAT so you get accurate air temp readings? The sensor hole in the plenum can be plugged with a pipe plug from Home Depot.

I agree move it into the side of air filter lid for more accurate temp readings.

I don't understand why one would move the MAT. You are only fooling the computer to think that the incoming air is colder than it really is. Yah, that might give you a richer mixture, but that is not necessarily better.

Merrick, Thats the whole point in relocating the mat. It gave my car the "cold feeling" even when the car is hot.

Think about how hot the plenum gets and so the MAT sensor. What you realy want to tell the ECM is the temp of the incomming not that of the plenum.

Even at idle the air is rushing in pretty fast and doesn't pick up much heat on the way. So reading the incomming air temp gives a more accurate value than taking the reading at the back of the plenum with a heat soalked sensor.
