I haven't used the car much over the last couple of months, been playing with my new Bonnie, and when I used it today the ABS light stays on and the OD doesn't work.
Brake lights work OK and I checked the fuses.
I did a search but did not find much so any help would be great!
BTW driving without the OD is great, real difference in feel and response.
I would think that you have 2 different problems that probably dont have anything to do with each other. The ABS problem could be any number of things, as simple as low fluid or a grounded wire, or as bad a malfunctioning speed sensor. But none of those would effect the OD mechanism. I would first make sure that you are trying to engage OD in the right way; you have to be at 2/3 WOT in 2,3, or 4. If you are sure that you are trying to engage it correctly and it wont go; then is there something wrong with the button? Does is push in ok? Could be as simple as the T bar or spring not engaging correctly.
I see in your profile the car is an '86. Many have problems with the O/D switch, but check if the O/D light works with switch operation. That isolates the problem as either electrical or other. The light's illuminating indicates the switch is also sending the signal to the (controlling) ECM.
My car needed more warm-up as it aged before the O/D would engage. Eventually, I learned that it dealt with how fully the fuel was being burned.
I swear that I fixed an On/Off cycling problem by replacing the spark plugs, which also dropped the O/D availability to the original engine temperature indication.
Sorry I should have been more specific.
The car is an 86 auto, and when I say OD I guess I mean the torque converter lock up.
Thanks for the help
