I just spent 5 hours layng dynamat Xtreme in my back cargo area. I only have it 1/3 of the way done. I have covered every centimeter in the area I have completed. i cut up pieces smaller than a finger nail to cover every spot. Im going to finish out the back hopefully this week with new interior parts back there. I ripped out all that stock insulation garbage and threw it out. It was old and smelly. So anyone who has used dynamat Xtreme. Does it help with:
Resonance
Road Noise
Other-Please specify
Whole car is going to be done, I am dynalining the roof and recovering it. Going to Dynamat Xtreme the firewall as well from the inside. I have been putting double layers on the back area to help quieten down the interior sounds. I am also going to replace window regulators and while thats out, I am laying dynamat Xtreme in the door shell, then after the regulators are put in, I am putting in a anti mold/mildew sound dampening cover. New window bumpers and inner/outer seals as well.
I did my entire interior with a very similar product. Then used the factory type insulation and mass backed carpeting on top of that. You will notice a significant reduction in noise. Resonance is really a different issue. The only way I got rid of it was to replace the exhaust with a Corsa system. I can now have a conversation with my wife. That's a plus most of the time.
Used FatMat. Virtually identical to the much more expensive DynaMat in acoustic properties. Added 150# to the car and I hear no difference. My exhaust roars too much, I learned, so I went much bigger on the amp/speakers, etc.
Dynamat.com sells 4 square feet for 40 dollars. Amazon sells the same thing for 20 dollars. To do the entire back cargo area I measured out 7 sheets but I am filling in every crevice including the speaker outline as well(aftermarket speakers) You can get 36 feet for 100 dollars from amazon.com if memory serves me correct. I revved it up a little and the back does sound a little quieter with the amount I have got down so far. I am going to lay a layer of frost king over it and be done with it. Amazon.com is the cheapest place to purchase Xtreme from at about half price.
