Default IAC motor shot?

My car has been not starting by itself. No amount of cranking will make it. If i give it gas it will start and run only if I manually keep the rpms up by power braking. My pressure has been checked at the fuel rail and is fine. Could this be my IAC motor? I understand this is in the TB but is it somthing that is easy to replace on my own? Planning on having a scanner look at it this week to know for sure. How much are these things? Can i replace it myself?

I just changed my IAC yesterday. Sounds like that's what's wrong with yours. It's easy to change. Just pull the throttle body, and unthread the IAC from the bottom of the throttle body. They cost about 50.00 at the local parts store. They may not stock one for a Vette, so it may tkae a few days to get.

My car did the same as yours. As soon as I replaced the IAC, it started up fine.

It may idle a bit high until the EMC adjusts it after driving for awhile.

Hope that helps.

It sounds like your idle air control could be a problem, but even if it is bad, your car should be able to run on its own....sounds like your minimum idle speed is not set right. What I would do if I were you is take off your throttle body, change the IAC...and clean the bore where the valve seats well. Put everything back together, disconnect the battery for a few minutes, and then go through the setup proceedure for setting minimum idle speed, and the TPS. You can find the proceedure in tech tips. Good luck.

My car wouldn't run until I turned the idle screw waaay up. Even then it wasn't getting enough air, and almost stalled. As soon as I replaced the IAC, it was back to its great running self. I had to return the idle speed screw back down to proper idle speed.

Does this require any special tool to get out? Ive taken off the plenum before but how should I go about taking the linkage and coolant lines on the TB?

My TPS is set correctly-- the TB is fairly clean as i toothbrushed it when i had the plenum off. It runs fine when it runs but latley it wont start WAY more often than run. Do i need to worry about re-seting everything?

I used an adjustable wrench to remove mine. I couldn't find an 1.5 inch open ended wrench. Even if I could have it wouldn't have fit with it still on the car. I totally forgot about the coolant lines. I did a TB bypass last year, 'cause I don't drive mine in the winter. Makes it much easier to take the TB off. You might be able to unscrew the IAC by disconnecting everything but the coolant lines, and pull it foward to get a wrench to fit. I don't remember how taut the coolant lines were. If you don't already have one, invest in a Helms (shop) manual. It makes diagnosys, and part removal much easier. It's worth the 100+ dollars it costs.

Good luck.
