Smoke from defrost & breadbox vent.

I thought I wasnt getting High blower speed so I went after the relay.
It all checked out, it was going to high, but high isnt very good.
I decided a few more screws & out comes the blower motor, I look in there & the evaporator had some dirt build up. So I sprayed some cleaner at it. Then I took a garden hose & hosed it out, just a little, I didnt get crazy with it. The water drained out & I vacumed the last of it out.
I hooked the wires to the blower. turn on the key & the blower spins great, it was on high. I reach in the door & turn it to medium blower speed & the blower came to a crawl. I turn it to low & the blower stoped.
Thats when I saw the smoke coming from defrost & breadbox vent.I ran to disconnect the battery.
The blower has its own ground wire so I dont think running it off the car hurt anything.
I put everything together, hooked up the battery, no smoke, no fan.
I guess I burned something on the control unit, or fan switch.
Just my luck I was just about to enjoy some cold A/C, now Im burnt Ha.
Oh yeah its a mostly stock 84.
All comments welcome, thanks.
