HI ALL!!! HAS ANYONE RUNNING A PROCHARGER SYSTEM IN THE LT1 HAD UNEVEN IDLER PULLEY WARE I THINK IT CAUSED MY BELT TO SPLIT I WILL BE CALLING PROCHARGER FOR INFO IN THIS ONE. http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/r...DLERPULLEY.jpg
IMO, to get that kind of wear would require the belt not to be running perpendicular to the mount of the pulley. Basically, the belt is running at a slight angle to the pulley. An easy way to confirm is to measure the width of the 6 rib serp belt and compare to the wear marks width on the idler.
The abnormal wear can be caused by bent mounting hardware or idler bearings that are worn excessively.
I have done a lot of installs, and have yet to run across an idler worn that badly. I have had some wear, just not that "concave" to date.

THANKS AKS RACING FOR YOUR RESPONSE,THE BELT WARE IS THE SAME WIDTH AS THE BELT,THIS WAS A NEW BRACKET & PULLEY FROM PROCHARGER,& HAS ONLY ABOUT 5000 MILES ON IT,WHAT CONSERNS ME IS THE RAISED AREA WITHIN THE WARE AREA ON TOP OF THE PULLEY ABOUT 2 BELT RIBS DOWN IN THE PIC,THIS IS WHERE THE BELT
SPLIT & CAME APART I THINK BECAUSE THE BACK OF THE BELT WOULD BE RUNNING ON TWO DIFF HEIGHTS CAUSING LIKE A CUTTING ACTION.
JUST INTERESTED TO FIND OUT IF OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS KIND OF WARE,ALSO PROCHARGER SUPPLYED THE BELT BUT MAYBE IT WAS DEFECTIVE CAUSING THE UNEVEN WARE OR THE PULLEY MATERIAL IS SOFTER THE SHOULD BE,I DONT KNOW AT THIS PIONT
One thing that would cause excess wear is if the contact surfaces were not hard anodized. I found out this when I had custom pullies made by ASP. I was told that the belt will eat the pullies in no time if they are not hard anodized. However, it does appear that your pulley was indeed hard anodized (supposedly, silver/clear is a bit tougher than black, but black is near the harder end of the hard anodizing toughness scale). I do agree that the two different height surfaces will cause a shearing action on the belt, but the question remains, what is the root cause of the pulley wearing in this manner?
I will be interested to hear what ATI has to say tomorrow.

Sorry for the CAPS LOCK,i am not yelling at anyone just have always printed this way so therefor have carryed it into my typing, thanks again for your input!!! and i agree with the hardning & it appears it was hard at one time but has worn off.i too cant wait to hear what they have to say i will keep you posted, but im sure it will cost me.

OK GUYS!!! i called procharger this morning & asked if they have had problems like this before & he said that he had another one on his desk as we speak that its not all that common put has seen this before,he said that this pulley takes some time to catch up to the belt, that it might slip ever so slighty and that it was designed to wear rather then damage the alternator & other pulleys.( ya ok sure what ever) he told me since i have had the supercharger for 4 years that they probably would not cover this but he could sell one to me for wholesale at 55.00 bucks, but as we were talking further he said that he would give me the pulley & that i would pay the overnite shipping at 28.00 bucks & i said thanks so much!!!we will see how long this one lasts hopefully longer then 5000 miles
Hi - Be sure that the pulley is in alignment with the other pulleys on the belt drive system. If the idler is offset to the front or the rear of the "optimum" position, the belt will fail by shredding a couple of ribs off it. I have run into this problem a couple of times, with the belt taking out the water temp plug from the temp sensor.
