Hello All, I am the proud poppa of an 88 white with red convertible withit 68k. I have never been much for this type of car as I am just an old redneck. I always figured if I couldn't use it for huntin' or hauling my smokers or firewood well then it just wasn't much use. Man I got that one wrong, all I had to do was drive it.
Here is my first of what I am sure will be many questions. This car was/is setting on a car lot, it has been jump started a couple of times and now the lights on the instrument cluster don't light up. My first thought was bulbs as all of the things work it is that you can just barely see them. Is there maybe a relay or something similar to check first? The only other issues are the intake manifold gasket leaking (not uncommon on the 5.7) and she needs a new pair of mufflers.

congrats and welcome to the forum...
occasionally jump starting (or even not connecting the battery terminals quickly/cleanly) does burn out bulbs.
However, there's also a chance it just popped a fuse. Have you checked them all?
Presume this is obvious, but put a good battery (acdelco professional 7 yr) battery in it and put a battery maintainer on it too... these cars are electrical hogs and don't like bad batteries and have a small (sometimes large) parasitic drain on the battery.
If you haven't already ordered an FSM (Factory service Manual), suggest doing so, it will save you days of aggravation. You should be able to find them either on ebay or via helm.com.
Since ours is a 94, not sure which direction to point-you, so likely someone else will chime in with more specific info.
Thanks for the welcome and the info. I haven't checked the fuses yet but that is on the list. I am just hoping for the obvious answer before I get started digging in areas I don't need to be.
using a battery charger/booster (small box on wheels) to jumpstart has killed the electronic dash, ecm, etc on many cars...car lots (used and NEW) still do it cause "we did that way for years", refuse to learn that damage is possible...damage to solid state devices, contrary to popular belief, may not show immediately.
