Hi all,
I've noticed some white smoke comming out of the bottom of my 93. I took a closer look, and right at the connection in front of my cat some white smoke was comming out. It was fairly light, but I have seen a fair amount comming out after running it for about an hour or so.
Any ideas of what the heck this is?

Are the cats original? If so I would say if all the connection are OK, you may have a clogged cat. Although I've never seen one actually create an exhaust leak like you mentioned. I would make sure you don't have a hole or break in a weld. Good luck.

You take his cigs away!
Sounds like you have a simple exhaust leak. I don't have a stock exhaust system so I can't vouch for how common this problem is on the LT1 cars. Is the connection tight? You might have to retorque the bolts. Do these cars use any sort of gasket there? Are the pipes very rusty? They could be worn out. This might be a good time to do an upgrade.
Re: How do you keep a cat from smoking? (chaos on wheels)
Are you sure motor oil isn't dripping on the cat?
This happened on my '90.... oil was dripping from the rear of the intake seal that was leaking onto the drivers side pre-cat. I replaced the intake seals and eliminated the pre-cats!!!

By George I think that you are right! That explains my other problem, which one mechanic identified as an intake oil leak. When driving at night I can see wisps of faint oily smoke against the winshield. Glad to know it might just the same darn problem of that leak hitting the cat and causing the smoke.
..and the dealer said that I needed an $800 valve job for this smoking problem. BAH!
Thanks for the help guys! ...and I'd shoot the cat if I could, but these darn GA emission laws....
