Default 1998 C68 Electronic Control - no button lights or temperature display

1988 Anniversary with electronic control (standard with this model). Several years ago the temperature display and the indicator lights for the buttons started not displaying intermittently - and has only gotten worse until this year when it doesn't display at all. I've checked all the fuses (OK) and bent the connector pins from the front display to the printed circuit board. The lights from the interior work OK. Car has less than 50,000 miles and hasn't any rust because it's never been driven in a Minnesota winter.

With the unit disconnected I measured the voltage on the middle two rows of pins with the car running. Upper #2, upper #15, and lower #4 had 14.5 volts. Lower 16 had 13.6 volts - which is curious. Even with the reprint service manuals I can't figure out the correct voltage and ground pins. I disconnected and checked ground circuit G109. I didn't check G201 since it requires major surgery.

Thoughts and recommendations?

Thanks - I'd already looked at this. Really have no interest in doing modifications - trying to keep this car as close to factory as possible. Funny thing is that the control actually works - for instance you can get the blower to run and heat the interior - you're just doing it blind.

Does this unit have a history of failure? Can I readily take the faceplate apart? Will buying a replacement or sending the faceplate out for repair likely solve the problem? I'm asking since no one will allow a return on electrical parts. Any vendors to use or avoid?

Another poster elsewhere mentioned buying a #1228824 unit - which is a remanufactured unit. Anyone have additional experience with this?

Just try method #1 as stated ( clean the contacts)

You would not be modifing anything by cleaning it.

It will not cost anything but a can of electrical cleaner.

Thanks for the thought. I had already used a pink pearl eraser on the contacts (trick learned in my old computer hardware days).

These are the correct voltages since I now have a working control. Went out to a Corvette shop in Ham Lake, MN and they had a couple of units. The second one we tried lit up with the temperature display and button lights. Really nice to try before you buy - especially with used electrical parts. Good deal - great price and didn't have to deal with someone over the internet (which I always consider to be dicey). So problem solved... Now if I can just get my radio to work fully rather than some sound to start and then the rear speakers working after 15-30 minutes - but that's a different issue.
