Re: Convertible Top Removal/Installation...How Difficult? (rubyred93)
RubyRed,
It is time consuming but can be done by a novice with good results. Key is to take your time and get the how-to video. Run thru the video a couple of times. I also had a TV setup in the garage to refer to as I was doing it.
I did it myself mostly because I rather do it myself than have someone else do it. That and the people that were known to be good at it were far away.
Make sure you get off all the old glue. Plan on replacing the weatherstripping when you do it. Mine was pristine, but disintegrated as I removed it. 12 year old stuff can't stand up to it.
Re: Convertible Top Removal/Installation...How Difficult? (Mairi)
I posted the same question a few months back and after reading Flame Red's posts (thanks again) I decided to give it a shot. Well it looks awsome. I just put it down in the garage last weeekend for the first time no problems. I asked the upholsterer who did my seats for a quote on a top and he said $650 installed. It does take 7 hours like they all say. But yes it is do-able if your somewhat mechanical and a bit patient. Good luck with it.

Thanks for the replies. I am going to watch the video and see where my comfort level is at that point. It would really stink to have to pay hundreds of dollars to have it installed. I did not know that it would take so long to put on the car.
Mairi - Thank you for the compliment. I spend alot of time with the car and enjoy detailing it as much as I do driving it. :)
Re: Convertible Top Removal/Installation...How Difficult? (rubyred93)
I did mine myself after watching the video and had good results. My seals were shot so I wasn't careful pulling them off. Got the best deal on the seals going through TLD, very happy with my Robbins top, most will agree they are top notch. If you decide to not do it yourself findout if the shop will give you a deal if you pull the top and put in the seals yourself.
