stupid spark plug question

Default stupid spark plug question

ok. so i bought NGK TR55s for my 92 lt1. however i do not think they are the iridium plugs. Does this matter in the sense that it will cause damage to my engine or are the standard TR55s ok to run?

The NGK TR-55 Platinum plugs are more than adequate for a stock engine. If they don't say "Iridium" on the box (and you didn't pay upwards of $15 apiece for them, they are not iridium plugs.

My Iridiums where $7 a piece. From AutoZone, but not listed for Corvettes. The non iridiums will work just fine in your engine. They may not last as long. But we're talking 50K on your plug vs 100K on the Iridiums. Maybe.

They are not iridium -- as the iridium version's part number is: TR55ix.

However, the TR55's are also NOT platinum either (i.e. OEM) as their OEM version platinum plugs are part number is: PZTR5A-15.

Meaning you'll need to change them every 6-12k miles.

Hence the reason I put the TR55ix in our 94 and would recommend the same for you (as GM's service bulletin for our 2000 transam now recommends using iridium instead of platinum's, albeit acdelco, but acdelco doesn't make iridium for our LT1 engines).

I'm running the TR55 copper plugs ($2/each) - I don't mind changing them, pretty easy now.
