Ticking noise
Hi all,
My LT1 makes a ticking noise when the engine is cold and I give it mild throttle. Any ideas what could be causing this? Could it be pre-detonation? I'm running 92 Oct. Also, I don't know if this is related, but sometimes under WOT the engine will hesitate a second, at around 4300 RPM. Thoughts?

Yup, change that oil and put some Chevron Techron in there.... and hope it goes away :yesnod: :yesnod: . if it doesn't you may have a noisey lifter or something... maybe a rocker as well.

Yup, change that oil and put some Chevron Techron in there.... and hope it goes away :yesnod: :yesnod: . if it doesn't you may have a noisey lifter or something... maybe a rocker as well.

The miss around 4300 RPM sounds like a bad opti. Thats what happened to me. But I temporarily solved it (don't know how) by replacing the plugs and wires with NGK TR55 Iridium's and MSD 8.5mm wires.
later on during a cam install I discovered the opti inards were rusted, bushing/bearing? non-existent, and basically in needs of replacing at only 30,000 miles

Well ive had my vette since it had 10k on it and everytime its cold i get a ticking , knocking, until it warms up.. I dont really drive it much when its cold but when i do i get the knocking :sad: Anyone know if a tune up would help this?

The ticking noise could also be the injectors. GM has a few service bulletins out about noise in the LT1 with the engine cold. I read some of them about the LT1 in the Impala. I'll see if I can hunt them back down again. It talked about knocks from the engine due to piston slap and wrist pin knocking also. Hope this helps and I'll try to find the service bulletins.
