Default Simple Ques?

I have a 96 OBDII.. I just installed 1.6 RR I had a check engine light for about 30 sec after the first time I started it.. then it went out, & the car has been fine ever since..

Now I plan on installing the Hot Cam, but I hear it WILL DEFINITELY need to be reprogrammed..

Who, Where, How much? Also can I still use the Hypertech to change my shift points, or once its set I am locked in to whatever the programmer sets?

John,

I think if you have the PCM reprgrammed you will not be able to take advantage of the Hypertech any more.. since that is pre-programmed in the hypertech.. it would remove you custom programming and treplace it with Hypertech.. you might want to look into LT1 edit and a laptop for what you want to accomplish. I assume you also have the LT4 Knock Module already.. if not that may help too

Jeff

I just got off the phone with Hypertech, & they said they can redo my Hypertech to accept the Hot Cam without giving me any code.. Also I would be able to adjust my idle speed.

Have you heard of anyone using the Hypertech with a Hot Cam, or a Comp Cam ? Should I chance em, or go with a tuner?

I like the idea of Hypertech because I'll have the flexibility to change shift points etc...

I'd appreciate any input..

John,

I emailed a friend of mine who use to use the Hypertech Programmer, he has changed to LT1 Edit since then, But here is what he had to say.

What they(Hypertech) are going to do is send him their generic "cam cartridge" THis will give him adjustable idle speed, but its not going to do anything for the hotcam but cause crappy driveability.

He really needs a custom tune and that's the only good answer. Either that or he gets LT1 edit and learns what to do himself.

He could get a custom tune and still use the hypertech. You can program fan temps, shift points, etc. and choose not to install the performance tuning. Even if he accidentally did install the tuning with all the other changes, the HPP would just read the custom program and save it until he un-programmed.

Hypertech's cam cartridges are a one-size fits all deal. They very rarely do new tunes just for one person, and considering it wouldn't be a dyno tune, its close to worthless anyway.

Thannnnnnk you. You just saved me a ton of greif, & aggravation... I will probably have Cartech, or Vette Dr. do my program.. & as you say use my current Hypertech to adjust shift points etc..

once again the Corvette Forum comes through :)
