I have a few questions about the ignition module. How is this unit grounded? Through the heatsink unit or through the harness?
I took the unit to 3 different shops, autozone could not test it.
Advanced auto tested with a plug in device that failed it on all counts.
Oreilly's tested it with alligator clips (three in the plug, and a ground strap on the heatsink portion) this failed all tests as well.
Not sure which if any test was correct
The car began having hard start issues, and would stall out like the spark simply cut out. This continued for several months until it will no longer start.
If it has been sitting for several days it will start and run for 3-5 minutes before stalling out and refusing to fire again, simply cranking.
Car runs rough for ~30 seconds, then stalls, but no longer shows any codes. Previously showed both H16/H36.
Codes 16 and 36 are both opti failures, low and high resolution respectively. Possibly a harness or PCM problem, but most likely, and highly likely the opti itself. Check the harness that runs to the opti from under the passenger side fuel rail cover first, if that is good then the opti has likely failed. Did it somehow get water or coolant soaked?
I replaced the computer, Opti harness, and the ignition module, at this point only the opti and the coil are left. Th ignition module tested bad on all counts though so that needed to go. and the computer had cooked the conformal coating off of it, so that went.
Thinking about going with the LTCC mod and a new opti.
