I've had direct experience with both shocks. Of course, the experience WAS not with vette's.
my miata I ran the 8-way adjustable KYB's... they happen to be pretty popular for the miata community. it's a greaat budget minded replacement shock.
the tokico adjustables i had experience with on my buddies civic.
I've heard good and bad about both vendors. Stories of blow outs on a severly lowered application, or the product doesn't last long, etc.
the Bilstein Z51, or base replacement shocks seem to be competitively priced "similar" to the KYB's and the Tokicos...
For that reason, I'd suggest Bilstiens.
With that said, Monroe sensi-trac's also seem to be a decent quality replacement shock for a rear-stock application. I ran a set on a fiero, they worked great.
Acdelco also sells a stock (factory replacement) set.
Hope this helped more than if confused you? lol...
it i had to choose between JUST those two, I'd go with KYB (since I've had directly experience).
The tokico have a reputation for being pretty hard. They are a little to harsh in some of the other applications, but the blues are nice because they really give the car back some control. I have a set in my civic beater and love them (the blues). KYB's seem to be decent too, but the tokico's will have a firmer ride.
On the other hand, if you can get bilsteins for the same price or close, I would go the bilstein route. On most cars, the bilsteins are a lot more money.
well when I had my Foxbody Mustang 5.0 I had put a set all around of the base KYB's and I hated them. Afterwards I put the base Tokicos and by far they were the best ive ever had in regards to handling and comfort.
I put Tokico's stuts and shocks on my Musatng GT, made a huge difference
over the OEM stuff. When I need shocks for my Vettes I will give them a look.
I found mine on ebay at a good price
I've never run KYB shocks so I can't compare but from what I can gather the KYB is an easier riding shock. I can testify about Tokico's, I put them on my '85 Z51 car and all I can say WOW! They are a performance shock, no doubt about that and I love 'em.
