Default Need advice on 700R4

I have an 85 with the 700R4 and 3.07 gears. Its a little complicated to explain but basically i dont think the transmission shifts at the correct times. At WOT, it shifts a little too late, and driving normally it seems to want to go through all the gears too fast. Also, when you come around a corner at the right speed (somewhere between 20 and 30), it seems to give me a shudder (not a severe vibration, you can just hear the motor being bogged down) because either it is in too high a gear, or the TC is locked up too early, or both?

The thing is that before i got this car i think its possible the last guy that had it put a passenger car 700R4 in it and changed the tail so it would work in this car, but didnt change the governors? My question is what would I have to do to get it to work right?....hopefully not a rebuild....could I just change the governors or whatever else would be necessary? Thanks in advance

Oh by the way, I resetted the TV cable like a billion times and Im still not happy with it. Sorry this post is so long.

You have the right idea with adjusting the TV cable to get the right part throttle shifting.

You will need to change internal weights/springs to vary the WOT shift points though.

You might try manually selecting gears for optimum performance. You can cut notches in the shift gate to more get shifter position feel and lockout on down shifting. My technique and pics are on my site; I did this to a used shifter for about $50.

A chip change would give you different TC lockup points; a higher stall TC would keep you in the power band below TC lockup.

Thanks for the help, and I did try manually shifting it some and thats a lot better, but the biggest problem with the transmission is that it keeps wanting to go through all the gears too fast i think. I drove my friends 88 and it seems to shift at the correct points where mine just seems to go through the gears way too early, no matter what i do with the TV cable. Is it possible that I have the wrong valve body or something?

Look on the B & M website. It tells you how to adjust the TV cable using a pressure gauge. That is the only correct way to adjust the TV cable
