Guys,
Well I found my intake leak that I could hear after my modifications. You are not going to believe what we did. I took the SR off and got the runners all loosens up. Too the one side off and went to take the other off. Got it off and looked at the gasket. I could see the indentation of were the runner was making contact with the gasket. I noticed the small hole passage that both runners have, the one is a long oval on a pretty noticable angle and the other is a straight up and down kinda square shapes hole. Well I noticed that the botton of the one hole the indent on the gasket was going across the hole about 1/4 of an in above the holes botton and leaving that 1/4 inch gap unsealed. I thought what the hell, how am I ever going to get that to seal if the runner are too "short". Then it hit me like a ton of bricks. I'm kinda embarressed to even say it, but here goes. We put the wrong runner on the wrong side :bb  I was kinda relieved to have it be something we did and not a flaw in the mating surfaces, as I suspected. Oh well it gave me a reason to order some SVO #24 injectors :D I suspect mine were in need of at least a rebuild. I guess these things happen to the best of us. I am just thinking of it as practice on installing the SR  Go ahead guys, make fun of me now, but I will admit I was never very good at those kids toys were you have to put the shapes through the holes that match. I always tried to put the circles through the squares, its possible with a hammer! :p:
I did the same thing the first time I installed mine. The guy I got it from said the runners were interchangable. So here we are putting it all together(with him right there mind you) and it goes right on. He had it on and off his car a number of times and he never got the sides mixed up obviously. Well needless to say the car would not idle below 1200 due to the huge vacuum leak. So don't feel bad. Been there done that!!!
Thanks man,
The only difference in the two situations is I *knew* there was a difference. You can claim you were mislead, I simply had my head up my butt.
Jes......after all that preparation??? Sometimes it's the obvious that gets overlooked. Like you said, consider it practice. Now you can start timing yourself like an olympic event. In fact they should make it an olympic event...call it "The Superram"....LOL. My best to date is 1 hour, 20 min, 30 sec.
First time i did mine i installed the runners and couldn't figure out how to get the injectors & fuel rail back on..Doh!!!
Hey there Guy,
I missed your comments. I though you were missing in action. Like you said they SHOULD make it an event. How long do you think it the SR design would stay in the NHRA Top Fuel dragsters arena. Can you imagine those guys ripping the engine down after every run and having to contend with the SR. No one would watch the races, they would miss all the wrench throwing and swearing the mechanics would be doing. Anyways I think we have made our point. Nice to hear from you again. Maybe you can explain how that leak might affect the performance I was seeing. Other than the obvious, running lean. Thanks all. Hopefully tomorrow will be more productive.
