I picked up some SSBC tri-piston calipers from a friend. They are C5 fitment and I figured there was a good chance they would fit since I run C5 calipers. Turns out they won't with the C5 bracket. The middle piston area is to large and hits the spindle. Pix:
Nice calipers!
When I square the caliper up to the abutment bracket there only needs to be 1/2" of clearance. My friend had a good idea. Use the C6 Z51 bracket and rotor. It should work that way but I don't think I'm going to use it that way. Just an FYI if anyone finds calipers like these or needs extra clearance.
I've been thinking about it. I can't decide whether to keep them for future use or not. I don't want to pay for the Z51 brackets and rotors right now. What I'd really like to do is grind off the damn spindle.
Is the piston bigger on those or there's just a third one? Do these take standard C5/6 pads? I have a set of C6 Z51 front brakes complete with brackets that I was going to do soon but maybe I will look into some of these calipers.
I think just by looking at them that the pistons are smaller in dia. then the C5 caliper pistons. Making the area equal, but I'd have to measure to be sure. They do take normal C5 pads! They make a different model that fits the C4 spindle but that uses C4 pads.
