Default AC vent problem 1994

My AC vents aren't blowing. Air just comes out from the floor and defroster. I've seen the problem mentioned here before so the first thing I tried was replacing the vacuum check valve on the engine rt side. That didn't fix it so I want to check the AC programmer The shop manual says that its above the accelerator, but I removed the seat cushion and crawled under and can't find it Anyone know where to find it? Thanks for any help!

Do you have the electronic or manual?

I've never looked for it on my '93, but on my buddy's '91 it was very far up above the accelerator...in that area. It's obvious since it has a muti-colored 'octopus' of vac lines coming off of it. It's a real PITA to remove since you have to get that vac connection off before you can actually remove the controller....ask me how I know. (I'm too good a friend)

By the way, that solved his problem with similar symptoms. His differed in that when he turned the car on, he could choose a vent output, but then it locked to that output.

BTW...glad to hear your seats are switchin'!

The A/C programmer is above the accelerator pedal. Some guys remove the driver's seat to make it easier to service.

The nipples in the vacuum connector collapse and prevent the vacuum from flowing.

I cut off the ends of the nipples on my '96. Then reinstalled. Problem solved! No need to buy any parts. Priceless, for sure!

Always go with the easy and cheap first....for under $5.00, change your vacuum check valve.

Thats what it looks like....and under a minute to install.
Its located under your right side fuel rail cover.

I was hoping that it was the check valve so I tried that first but no dice. I looked for the programmer up above the accelerator but didn't see it. Do you have to remove a panel or pull down some carpeting to find it or should it be right there

probably NOT the programmer, but almost surely a vacuum line problem, you need to carefully check and test all the vacuum lines for the HVAC, both under the hood and in the dash. Then if they're all good I'd look at either the control unit in the center dash and last of all the programmer.

All the vacuum lines seem ok. I tried taking the seat cushion out and laying on the floor but I still can't locate the programmer. Does anyone have any pix of it in place??

The programmer is a 5-6" square black box. At one corner is a vacuum fitting with about 7-8 vacuum hoses (different colors) attached to it. It is directly above the accelerator pedal.

One must remove a bolt at the bottom (I believe) and then the assembly will drop down. Remove the clip holding the vacuum hoses and pull the connector from the box.

The back of the box is the most expensive piece of cardboard ever to find its way into a Corvette!

Did you take the hush panel down. It's on the firewall.

I pulled back parts of the flexible foam panel from the firewall but didn't take it all down. Is the programmer usually covered up by the foam panel?? Maybe thats my problem !!

It's not on the firewall on my 90. It's mounted to the dash, look up and toward the rear of the car, you should see it.It will have a vacuum cluster and a blue electrical connector. First thing you need to do is remove the interior pieces. Take the push clip off of the vacuum cluster first. the hoses are not long enough to let you pull it down. use a small flat head screwdriver. remove the one nut (9 or 10 MM).then snake it out.
The older C4's used a collector that was hard plastic, the newer cars had softer rubber and they tend to suck closed with the vacuum .

Tom, not the seat cushion, the seat. Sounds hard but its not...four bolts....thats it.

Its closer to 2 1/4 to 2 1/2". I think it has six colored vacuum hoses attached and the one bolt that holds it to the fire wall is in the center and its a push bolt.

I've been trying to get a picture of this before I take out the seat and crawl my way in. Is it possible to see the programmer under the dash? I tried holding my cell phone camera at various angles and blindly taking a pix in hopes of seeing it, but so far I haven't found it.

a good one. It's on the firewall above and to the right of the accelerator pedal, you'll see a number of colored vacuum lines running to it.

lay on the floorboard and look straight up right of the accelerator pedal. It's there.
