Default Changing from injection to carb help!

Here's some love to all you vette heads from the new kid in Atlanta! Most would call me nuts to toss injection for a carb but I'll just say that I'm not a super mechanic, I've just built a few hi performance boat motors and I'm very cormfortable with natural breathing ... and my budget will support a rebuilt carb, not the complicated port injection in my '86 vette ... I have 2 ?'s ... has anyone put a BBC in a C4 or is that too dificult? and are my guages dependent on the censors in the computer/will I run into a problem if I remove the computer and injection in exchange for a hot 400 small block?

Oil and temp work off standalone sensors, speedo may or may not run through computer.If you removed the engine harness you would need to replace sensor wiring to dash

Speedometer will not work, in my opinion because I think it has a vehicle speed sensor under the dash which I imagine is wired to computer. Why not change to carb if you must, but leave the computer where it is and just unhook the wires that go to the f.i. If you don't plan to change the distributor you'll have to leave the computer anyway or it won't advance the spark. You'll have to change the fuel system...too much pressure for a carb. You could use a regulator for that. You'll also lose the fuel mileage function and trip mileage function when you go to carb. Ammeter will probably be ok.

changing to a carb and leaving the computer is a good idea ... if I wanted to leave the computer and dropin a BBC, what BBC distributor would I need

Most go aftermarket or HEI dist with vac advance when doing carb conversion.
the speedo signal (VSS ) setup varies by year;
in one it goes to the ECM then to the speedo ;
in the other it goes to the speedo first then to the ECM
