time to replace the transmission, any suggestions/tips
Well, after 190,000 miles, the tranny has bit the dust. I plan on getting a new crate transmission to replace it and was wondering if there was anything I could do to beef it up in the process. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Most of the crate trannies that I see advertised have the upgraded valve bodies and stronger clutch packs. I would narrow it down to a few and then obtain the builder's specs and compare.

Then if you want to spend gobs of money on it hoping it will never blow up again you could do what I'm doing. TH400 w/Gear Vendors overdrive. Settle down everybody. Just thought I would give him another idea. Good Luck.

GM makes a replacement 700R4 with a 3 year/50K mile warrenty.
You might want to take a look at that.
The local Chevy dealer should be able to order and install it.

Excellent advice Vic. Are you interested in 1/4 miling it? Now's the time to pop a 2600 convertor in there to help you get a better launch. If not, no biggy.

If you dont plan to punish the tranny at the track,Get a GM goodwrench rebuild. http://www.paceparts.com quoted me 1350 for a rebuilt 700R4 with a 3 year 50K warranty..its the goodwrench rebuild, not the A/C Delco. The A/C Delco is warranteed for only a year.
This was about a year ago...price may have gone up some.
Btw if the transmissions fails under warranty, any GM dealer will replace it free
of charge even if you do it at home the first time.
However if you pop in the higher stall, dont let them see/replace it ,'cuz they'll void the warranty.
