Hey everybody!
Recently my '95 corvette has developed a knock (both at idle and high rpms) and I think it may be sticky lifts on the fuel injectors because it is also running a little sluggish. Instead of taking them out and sending them in to be tested and chem cleaned, is there a cleaner I can feed into my fuel system that may clean them off (and if so whats the best kind?), or is that not an advisable way to get rid of it? And if anyone thinks I'm wrong about my diagnosis I am completely open to suggestions! Thanks!
I read some that some intank cleaners will damage injectors on some year corvettes, I read this for sure about my 93 year corvette. Some cleaners can make a seal or o ring leak in injector. It's just that you have to use the right kind of cleaner. My 93 misses at idle. I plan on buying rebuilt Bosch III injectors from Jon at FIC.Our multec injectors are known for problems.
I talked to a guy at an O'Reily store who owned a '92 said he ran into a similar problem and recommended Lucas fuel injector cleaner so I am trying that out now. I read your thread and actually my father is running into the same problem in his '02 Z06 at about 4000-5500 rpms so we are also trying the same cleaner in his. Fingers crossed we will see how it goes! I guess i will just have to drive her around till I run low of gas! Ill update with the results of both cars.
I sent my original LT4 injectors off to FIC Injectors to have them tested and cleaned while I was rebuilding the motor. They found one that was obviously clogged, and cleaned and flowtested the entire set back to factory specs. Really isn't too expensive, and beats guessing at the problem, and possibly causing engine damage.
Don't forget, if one sticks open if can fill the cylinder with fuel, very possibly leading to hydro-lock and serious damage.
A very valid point and it certainly will be my next course of action if the cleaner is ineffective. Do you remember how much it cost and how long it took?
