Out for a spin the other night and i could feel the car lose power. got worse and worse andthen i started to hear a clicking coming from the engine. I was doing about 65 at the time. Pull over to the side of the parkway open the hood and the exhuast manifolds are glowing red    . I ran back into the car and shut it down. My coolant temp was at 195 and my oil temp was at 205. all levels were fine.
Waited about 5 minutes started it back up and it was fine. had better SOTP fell than it did before this happened. WTF
What could have cause this and how can i prevent it from happening again?
Agree with the Catalytic converter. The insides do come apart and plug up the exhaust causing extreme backpressure and no power. Was there any rattling noises or just the click?
How about running retarded? Could be that the dist hold down loosened up or the like and you are running retarded i.e.: still burning after the exhaust valve opens. That turned out to be my problem once and the manifolds were also cherry red. Wouldn't you hear a "woooossssh" sound from the rear if the cats are plugged? Frank
I agree with the clogged cat(s) being the culprit. When my front ones went, they broke up inside and at throttle there was a clicking or rattling that was hard to pinpoint. It sounded like it was coming from inside the block due to the location of the pre cats just below. The first few days it was intermitent. Scared the crap out of me thinking it was coming from inside the block. Next I started to experienced a loss of power. All guages read normal...If you bang on the cat with your fist you should hear the vibration of the loose baffle or broken pieces inside. I hope you get it up and running soon. Good luck...Dave
