Default So my car problem solved(thanks members)

Well, I got as far as I could I thought BUT if I had just dug a little deeper, I would have saved some $$$. If you read my previous thread about relays blowing, car not starting, fuel pump acting up. I thought it was a bad ground and so did my mechanic. Well, he expalined it to me so I thought I should let everyone know how it all went.

The wires that go the the relays under the hood had no insulation on them. They had it completly burned off from years of heat. They had all come pushed together thus grounding out the car which could ALSO pop my relays which it did one time. He showed me that, separated them, reinsulated them and made sure they wouldn't rub again. Insulated them better than factory. Car runs like a champ now. Quite pleased that it was not something serious and now that the problem is fixed. Damn insulation wears off of wires and you got a whole mess of problems!

I am not sorry that it went to him though because he is a speciallist and knew right where to look. Thanks members for the help, schematics, diagrams, and disscussions. I learned alot and I have also documented the thread/pictures.

Glad you got it fixed befor you had a fire. I caught mine in time but it was going in the same direction. I actually cut about 6" off the end of the FP relay harness and spliced in a connector from a newer car. Somewhere around 89 GM upgraded the insulation on the underhood wiring.

It was the weirdest thing. Im glad you had a similar issue so that I know this was really the issue. All relays and insulation are NEW!!!! Im happy. Now I feel the need to carry a large electronic safe fire extinguisher. I saw those seat mounted ones and thats a definate no no.....Might get a black one to go on the halo so it wont be visable but easily accessed...

I thought for sure it was a chassis ground or something but oh well.

Here
I did look and I noticed they were charred but I did not think that it was causing it to not start. I should have separated them. I did not know they could ground each other out and cause it not to start. Next time, I will investigate all wires and separate if need be. People, learn from my mistake.

It's obvious you want to tell slick where the problem is and that it's right under his nose but your not going to....

That wasnt a insult. I can tell you know your way around cars. Just the way you post gives shows you are confident and don't post BS when it comes to problem solving. Anyone who had a gatlon gun for a avatar is not a idiot.

I was only saying that you had a idea of both problems BUT you want to help people by letting them help themselves. I had a teacher like that and she was the best thing to ever happen to me. She was a complete hardass but I made an A in her class. If more members were like you, CF would be alot more under control without all the hating and pissing matches going on.
