Default Heat Deflection

Who has used headerwrap, does it help? What is some other heat protection after headers you've used or seen?

After installing the headers, I found my cupholder is now a cup warmer! Under the hood, my fuel and brake lines are terribly close to the headers which worries me. Also, my A/C doesn't blow quite as cold and I'm sure it's because of the headers. Advice?

Did letting that relay cool off take care of your seat problem on Sunday? Could you be running a bit rich causing some detonation in the cat or pipes? I don't know much about the headerwrap as an option I'll

I've used header wraps before, not on a Corvette, but on a Honda CRX. And the results were INCREDIBLE!!! I could run the car all day long at highways speeds, shut the engine down, and immediately touch the header with my bare hands. No joke!

The only caveat comes because header wraps work so well, the headers will retain a LOT of heat. On the CRX, after a couple of years of heat cycling (from regular use, no racing at all) the header cracked. I should mention, the header on the CRX was made of just mild steel with no thermal coating, so I don't know if having it coated (or maybe using a stainless steel header instead) would have made a difference.

You should also keep in mind, if you've already installed the headers on your Corvette they WILL have to come off to put the header wrap on them. Oh, and wear work gloves or gardening gloves when handling header wrap. It's made of fiberglass and it can get a bit painful to handle with bare hands.

But if you're looking for extreme heat reduction, I think you would be hard pressed to find anything better.

I hope that helps.

Default To Wrap or Not To Wrap

I just installed a set and I posted a question and got many good suggestions (search header wrap). I decided to wrap mine for two reasons (1) the set I installed were a used set (I bought them on Ebay) of TPIS headers (sent picture to TPIS and they helped identify and supplied Y-pipe) which had been installed on a 1988 on which they had been wrapped and were in excellent conditions even though according to TPIS they were very old maybe the wrap helped. (2) I wanted to keep the under hood temperature down. I wraped them down to the collectors and the Y-pipe in one spot where it got close to the body. The wrap does make sparkplug installation a little more dificult. I would also suggest using hose clamps and not the little stainless straps wrap suppliers sell. I bought two 50' rolls on Ebay for around $50.00 and they came with a few of the ss straps. Good luck.

Thanks for the ideas. These are used Lingenfelter headers that were wrapped previously but in good condition. I had them ceramic coated in and out by a local shop but they still seem to give off a lot of heat. I instantly noticed a hotter cabin. Here's a few pictures.
