Default Oxygen Sensor

On a "96" vert can the oxygen sensor be replaced or serviced without putting the car on a rack ? Can it be reached from the top. Thanks

I don't know how it is on the 96 but on my 95, the driver's side can be reached from underneath if you jack the car up so it's relatively easy to change yourself. The passenger side looks like it can only be reached from up top but with an o2 socket and several knuckles to get down there. Even then I don't know if you can reach the plug from up top and may need to get under anyways for the plug.

And if you break one or more of the sensor connector pigtails (very likely since they've dry rotted from exhaust heat) you can buy replacments at NAPA Auto Parts store.

A crow's foot O2 sensor wrench sold at Sears will serve you well for this job. Also, don't forget the anti-seize compound, taking care NOT to get any on the business end of the replacement sensor.
