Default How do you clear historical codes on a 95?

How do you clear historical codes on a 95? I have two historical codes from a malfunctioning o2 sensor and can't figure out how to clear them. I follow the procedures in the FSM but must be doing something wrong.

One of the historical codes has been there ever since I bought the car and it was because of a faulty o2 sensor for the previous owner.

Thanks.

Disconnect the negative battery terminal..... wait a minute, then reconnect.

I can confirm this doesn't work. At least not on my car. I've left it disconnected overnight when I changed my fuel filter last week and had gas everywhere and the historical codes are still there.

Oh yeah all last winter when it was stored I had it disconnected as well and the historical codes are still there so I don't think I can leave it disconnected much longer than several months.

Thanks again for the help.

Your car doesn't by any chance have OBDII does it? If so you'll have to erase it with a scanner.

To clear the codes on OBDII without a scanner.

1. With ignition "off" ground terminal #12 of the DLC (use bent paper clip to connect pin 4 to pin 12)
2. Turn ignition "on".
3. Press trip/odo button on the DIC until 1.7 appears in the trip monitor area of the instrument cluster.
4. Press eng/met button on the DIC & hold until "---" appears in the speedometer area of the cluster, this will clear CCM DTC'S.

To clear PCM/ECM codes do the following:
1. Press the trip reset button on the DIC until the desired system is displayed. In this case it will be 4.0.
2. Press trip/odo button on the DIC until the desired diagnostic mode (4.7) is displayed on the trip monitor area of the cluster.
3. Press & hold the eng/met button on the DIC until "---" is displayed in the speedometer area of the cluster, this will clear PCM codes.

To clear ABS/ASR codes do the following:
Same as above but you’re looking for “9.7” on the trip odo
