Noise/rattle under front bumber
1989 corvette
runs and drive great but if you run over the least bit of a rough spot - the front end rattles bad. does not shimmy and it is not out of line. someone told me it needed new rack and pinion -
what could this be
also has high idle - round 1800 rpms - any suggestions to fix this

high idle could be the throttle position sensor, iac valve crudded up, etc. There are a few scenarios for that.
The rattles can't be the rack. Usually rattles are associated with body parts. Try crawling under the front and tapping things with your fist lightly. Usually you can duplicate the shock to the car that is transmitted from the tires.
Use the tires as a beginning..........go to the shocks, then sway bar, then control arms, etc.

Possibly broken or missing "anti-rattle clip" on a brake pad. They sometimes fall off or break from metal fatigue and can result in a hell of a racket! Very common and an easy fix.
AutoZone sells them as part of a kit. $12 or so.
