Default Beefed up D36

I got the latest Vette Magazine last night at the news stand.

Read an article on a new beefed up D36 from Zip-products

Though you guys with D36's might want to check it out.

http://www.vetteweb.com/tech/vemp_09...ect/index.html

The result is a better-than-factory-spec Dana 36 with a durability quotient approaching that of a 44. (Author's note: For extreme-horsepower automatic C4s equipped with drag slicks, Zip recommends stepping up to a full-on 44 swap. To ease the job, the company offers an all-encompassing swap kit that comes with the necessary driveshaft, cover, and other supporting bits.) Throw in a 3-year, unlimited-mileage warranty, and the $1,395 price tag (plus a $525 refundable core charge) looks like quite a bargain.

Quite nice....quote nice indeed.

All the differential invoices I saw at My Differential specialist shop were all for ~$1000. Mostly parts.......

So that price with the refunded core charge is quite attractive if your LSD unit is on it's last leg.

Not only that, you get to swap gears while you are at it.

Price out a gear swap on your own........

That is a bargain considering a OE used 36 is anywhere from 250 to 350 with no guaranties or warranty. A gear swap if you have it done is probably around a grand.

Thanks for the heads up.

Curious to see how long before the "unlimited mileage" part is struck from the warranty coverage...

If you've ever had both units apart and side by side, there's a significant difference in size (which is strength for a differential)...

For the "average" modded Vette (exhaust and an air cleaner/intake).. it ought to be fine, though...

For a car that does not have to cruise in triple digit miles on the interstate per trip i am willing to bet gears the best bang for the buck by far for performance use..

Thanks, as far as the warranty goes, it is 3 years unlimited mileage period. That does not mean you call me up with a drag car that you have 400 small block with a 200 shot of nitrous and I warranty your diff against failures, it means it is under warranty against any defects from our parts or our service. If you have allot of power just like in the article I recommend the D44. You can tell when a diff is broken from a power/traction issue vs. a premature part failure.
Other than the race cars, the D36 is a pretty strong diff considering how small it is. I see them all the time with over 200k on them and these cars were not driven easy when they were new.

Is the D44 you sell also built stronger then the stock D44?

It depends, if we are building a stock D44 it is only as strong as the housing which is pretty strong. We offer a new D44 that does have a HD housing which beefs up the diff allot.

Zip... the atricle says you sell a full swap kit from D36 to D44 for autos. Can you get that with the HD-D44, and how much would that kit be, drive shaft, cover/batwing, diff. and c-bean?
