The cars that usually do this md has a MAF sensor(Mass Air flow)...the cars that have the filter mod on the TB uses a SD or Speed Density system.
Also, its pretty stupid to put an air filter there at the TB, its going to suck the HOT radiator air into the motor from the fan area.
Thats why they have cold air inductions to pick up cooler air from the outside.
I know it looks cool, but I dont think its a great idea.
Im also betting most of those street rods with those filters are trailer queens and rarely get driven anyways so the heat from the radiator isnt of any concern.
:)
right, you could do it if you have a speed density ecm, but as Bill said, you would just get hotter air into your plenum. If you have a MAF this wouln't work at all, butt opposed to just robbing HP.
I know a guy who has a speed density firebird. He's also got the prototype ram air hood that has been opened up, to feed air directly into his filter mounted onto the TB. He doesn't drive it in the rain but I have to wonder if it wouldn't pour rain right down his intake and into his opti.
The K&N oval filter will not clear using standard thermostat housing and you would also have to gouge out a little rubber for the TPS. This is true of L98, don't know about LT1. As stated before, you will get engine compartment heat in there.
